Snake Bird

Clicked on: December 31, 2012 (14:35 hrs)

Spotted this bird (also called Oriental Darter) first at Sultanpur. And then saw several more at Bharatpur.

This bird, and the Cormorant, both sit for long times with their wings spread out to dry them as they go in and out of water.

Learnt that while most water birds have waxy wings to keep them dry, the Snake Bird and the Cormorant do not have waxy wings, and thus need to periodically spread them out to dry.
